I found it! Euonymus Europaeus...would have been lovely in the autumn if I'd only left it in :(( typical!

Ah, you know I did think it looked like Euonymus flower, but rejected that idea because I thought it was a climber, even if it wasn't Solanum... how very irritating.

Yes, I thought it was a climber too! lol...it was certainly going upwards nicely when I pulled it out! The one in the garden at St Andrews was huge, a tree about 10feet tall and as wide.
