I have seen a yellow lavender growing in a garden and have been trying to buy either a plant or seeds without any luck. I have tried in shops and on the internet. Does anybody know where else I can try? Many thanks.

When you say yellow lavender, do you mean the leaves were yellowish? Because there is no lavender with yellow flowers, but there is one with variegated creamy yellowish leaves called Warburtons variegated. Not terribly hardy.

It wouldn't be Santolina would it ? ? ?
It's silly common name is 'cotton lavender'.

Bit early for that to be in flower, unless Anns means she saw it last year, but it's possible.

To the best of my knowledge there is no lavender with yellow flowers... I suspect you have seen something different.

Its lavendula viridis, have seen these planted along with french lavender, side by side each other to form a small low hedge, julien.

I agree with Julien - there is definately a yellow lavender see Mountain Valley (garden supplies) on the internet - it's a nursery website in the USA where they give you photos and details of the yellow lavender - you can actually buy it from there but it's a long way to come isn't it ?

The way they have it growing with L.stoechas makes me think it's probably about the same level of hardiness - i.e. not hardy enough for a typical UK winter.

I have seen a similar lavender called stoechas but not yellow. The garden is just up the road from me in Bournemouth and the plant is a reasonable size and going woody at the bottom, just like a lavender, so I would guess it's been there a while. I will try and take a photo over the weekend, if I can work out how to post it on this site. Thanks for all the replies so far.

I have just read the comments again and noted the name Julien suggested. I googled lavandula viridis and found the exact plant. I'll go and have another look just to make sure but I'm almost 100% sure that Julien is correct. Many thanks.

I stand corrected, thanks Julien for the info. Anns, hooksgreenherbs.com has it listed, but they're out of stock, most other suppliers seem to be in the USA. Try googling Lavandula viridis, you may find other UK suppliers who have it in stock. Seems to be somewhat tender, like stoechas, as others have said.

Chiffon Yellow is the cultivar listed from the US...I'm also interested in 'adding' to my lavender garden but concerned about hardiness?

How do I say thanks?
