What tree/shrub is this please?

I spotted this small tree with its dangling blooms last Sunday. Does anyone recognise it?

It's a Garrya elliptica - most Nurseries/Garden Centres sell them. You can prune it to keep it as a shrub, but as you've seen they would otherwise grow quite big!

Check out my plants David - it'll tell you how to grow it

What is the zone for this plant?

All the literature says a zone 8.

Many thanx, Spritz, am off to check your growing instructions, Andrewr - thank you. Guess I live in a zone 8, thanx Maple and Gaiashelly. This pic was taken at Kellie Castle last Sunday so it is in flower now. Will be able to upload and label the pic now.

Thanx for posting the growing/pruning guide, Andrewr. Yours are beautiful. I think one of these at the front of our house would be great. Glad I discovered this one.
