Earlier this year I was given a very healthly pieris forest flame, well established in a pot about 5ft tall. For the last few weeks i've noticed the leaves going yellow and dropping off.I've watered it, especially in the recent hot spell but not made any difference. It gets the sun most of the afternoon. Can anybody help as i really don't want to lose it ?

Not sure that I would grow pieris in a pot as it has shallow roots that like to spread. The roots like to be cool and shaded although the foliage needs part shade and some sun. Make sure that the roots are kept moist.

Thanks Bulbaholic, will try moving it out of the sun, then eventually into the border.

Is it in ericaceous compost? As it's an acid-lover, that's what it prefers - but being in a shadier spot should help, as Bulbaholic suggests.

Thanks Sheilab Yes it's in ericaceous compost. Will it need feeding yet ?

I prefer them in the border myself, but in pots and with the right tlc they do really well, make sure you incorporate plenty of ericacious compost when trasplanting, and mulch the base with plenty of rotted down pine needles keep watered and feed every two/three weeks with ericacious liquid feed and they will thrive. julien.
