I wish to replace my acer in the garden. Can I plant the new one in the same spot?

It is very old and there are as many bare branches as branches with leaves and it has become unsightly but the question is whether I can replant in the same place,as I know that with some crops it is not advisable to use the same spot

Should be ok if hole is dug out big enough with a little good organic matter in it.Spread the roots out and amke sure well drained.
