I wish to replace my acer in the garden. Can I plant the new one in the same spot?

What's wrong with the old one ?

It is very old and there are as many bare branches as branches with leaves and it has become unsightly but the question is whether I can replant in the same place,as I know that with some crops it is not advisable to use the same spot

Should be ok if hole is dug out big enough with a little good organic matter in it.Spread the roots out and amke sure well drained.
