In your area, Canc55, I would try Sour Gum (Nyssa sylvatica), Pennsylvania Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica), Wisconsin Weeping Willow (Salix x blanda), Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis), Red Maple (Acer rubrum), or Bald Cypress or Pond Cypress(Taxodium species).

weeping willow are easy to . just find a willow you like in winter and cut last years growth off of it the size you like . push the first foot or two in the area and it will grow in spring . just watch your buildings or hard standing .

True! Any kind of tree needs to be at least 1/2 of its mature width from the nearest building, wall, pavement, etc., or the roots will cause structural damage. I.e., a Weeping Willow will grow to about 60 feet wide, so it shouldn't be any closer than 30 feet to the house.

I would agree with all on Tug's list and also add Liquidambar styraciflua, Salix alba, in it's various colour-stem forms, Amelanchier lamarckii, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Paulownia tomentosa, Betula nigra, and pretty much any/all of the Alders (Alnus species).

There are really quite a few good tree options for wet soil.
