What to do ?
Asked on 28 Sep, 2008
I bought this colchicum this year and it has flowered but the bulb seems to have shrivelled up. Should I plant it in the ground now, or should I give it water, or what. I'd be grateful for some advice.

they are ideal planted in amonst other plants to provide adequate support for the flowers. The leaves in spring will be quite big. Try planting them amonst low growing autumn species, as this means the flowers are supported but the leaves have no competition

Yes, the bulb dies after it has produced flowers, then during winter it grows roots and then leaves in spring and re-builds the bulb for next time. Plant it in the garden somewhere out of the way, the leaves are a bit coarse and let it get on with it.
