We have a eucalyptus tree which is about 20ft tall. This winter it looks as if it has suffered with the frost and cold weather. All the leaves are looking dead. We had some of the top taken out last year. Do you think it has got a disease or has died due to the cold weather. It has been in the sight for about 10 years.
Sorry cant do a photo.

Would have been helpful if you'd said where you are in the UK, makes it easier to answer. Anyway, if you're in a colder part of the country, chances are its been affected by the more than usually severe pre Christmas weather. Inspect the trunk and branches for signs of disease or infestation, particularly the areas which were pruned out last year. There is no clue quite when last year you had the tree pruned - if it was late summer, its possible the tree was more vulnerable to the sudden onset of cold weather in November.
If no sign of rot or disease, then suggest you give it time - you may find new growth and new leaves starting by end of April or earlier, again, depending where you are.

ive always said all along your better of pruning for that very reasen and replanting in early spring . im so glad you said that bamboo i have someone who is obviously very up on there plants unlike me lol to refer to next time i have a dissagreement about such matters lol . my friend is a bonsei excpert and lives just behind me which is realy handy as hes realy a great plantsmen ass well as trees . its obvious he shines at trees thow .
bye the way popinpop did you know eucalyptus grow realy quite quickly and most get very very tall quickly and they also have a habit of getting blown over which i would consider at this juncture . there must of been a reasen you chopped the tree back after all .

I know why they chopped it back Noseypotter - they grow about 6 feet year, that's why, and will make 65 feet in no time. I've one downstairs planted last year - it's now nearly 2 feet, and tomorrow, I'm going out to cut it to within 2 inches of the ground. I want a shrub, not a tree, of eucalyptus.

Eucalypt is also said to be the deepest rooting tree, Nosey - I haven't seen the furniture, but have heard about it. As for more land, I'd like any at all -just got a balcony, lol!
