Sunny spot in the garden

Asked on 18 Sep, 2008

In spring and summer I have a very sunny spot in the evening until sun set, but from September on there is shade. What type of plant should I grow?? Sun loving plants, shade lovers or partial shade plants. (Whant to thank Poaannua and Doctorbob1 for the Hipericum pruning advise :-)

I reckon you need to grow plants that flower in the late spring/summer which enjoy the sun, then die back, with some more to take over from that point which don't mind shade. How about Lychnis coronaria which I have just cut back, Veronicas, Salvias and some annuals to fill the gaps. Then to follow on, a background of shrubs such as Hebe 'Autumn Glory'? You could have small bulbs in the spring before the perennials and annuals start. Any good? I hope this helps to spark your ideas.

You could try some Winter Flowering Heathers and Winter flowering Pansies. . EUONYMUS EMERALD -N-GOLD would look nice and bright . Thank you for thanking us for the Hypericum ideas.
