I have just uprooted 3 of these (Onopordum acanthium) from a garden of a house being knocked down. I have planted them in a similarly sunny position in my own garden. They look dead, all silvery grey with pleanty of dried seed heads still attached. The biggest is about 10 feet high. What should I do to help them? Thank you

Kate, the Scotch thistle is a biennial plant so, as it has flowered, it is dying anyway. You need to collect seed and sow it as soon as possible.
