Dear All,
I mentioned in my blog a while ago a Camelia-like/Laurel-like tree I found in our woods. It is about 20-25ft high. Below are some pictures of the leaves, trunk and overall shape. The trunk has a slightly silvery grey hue. I now realize it is not a Camelia, but I haven't the faintest idea what it is - any help identifying it is welcome. It may well be indigenous to Japan. Dear Tugbrethil, thanks for this. I've been googling based on your suggestion, and it's got me round to Mokkoku (Japanese for a type of Ternstroemeria). Seems there are some different types etc, but I'm sure I can narrow it down easily now. Seems to be a specimen of 40 + years, or in a situation it really likes! Rgs, ptarotuos

I think the leaves are too thin (not solid and rubbery enough), and too pointed at the tips for ternstroemia. Worthy

Quick update. A little further research, and I'm now quite convinced it is an Osmanthus of some kind. So really hoping for a mass of scented flowers. Tbs, ptarotuos

Hmm, maybe a Ternstroemeria? The leaves seem to remind me of that.
