It depends which "ginger lily" you have - there are literally hundreds of them.
Even assuming it's an Hedychium species or variety (which is the genus most usually referred to as Ginger Lilies) then some are bone hardy in the garden whilst others will be killed entirely by even the lightest frost, and there are all points in between.
If you can find the name of yours then I can advise accordingly.
