Well - that's quite a question. I suspect that it's a homework or student one, but I'll try to help.

There are lots of different soils. The basic ones are loam, silt, clay, chalk, sand and peat. However, most gardens have a mixture, and the soils vary in their acidity/alkalinity and fertility, as well as the soil's ability to drain.

Go down to the bottom of the page and click on 'S' then click on 'Soil Types' and you will find lots of information
