I grew Maris Peer, early and King Edward main crop potatoes. The earlies were lovely but the King Edwards have just been lifted and turn to mush after 10 mins gentle simmering.

King Edward's are a very floury potato and as such do need watching when boiling- you might find it easier to steam them. Living in Ayrshire you are unlikely to have had a drought in summer but if you did this can cause the potatoes to absorb a lot more water when cooked - another good reason for steaming. You can try roasting them and making chips with them.

The are also healthier steamed, as they retain their goodness.
