I'm using firefox and seem to be OK but it may be I've not looged out since the changes

Can you see an options box?. If so there should be a login facility in there

The options box is missing it should be next to the HI! in the photo. The only way to I can access the personal side of the site is to search for a question or blog I have commented on and click on my avatar. I have added a photo to show difference.

I found pages were loading very slowly today using Firefox. Have you tried reloading the page?

16 Oct, 2010

Yes Beattie I have tried reloading I restarted computer, and even removed bookmark from my favourites and started from scratch still nothing helped. I did not have this problem on Thursday or Friday it's definitely a strange one. It looks like I will have to use other browser for the time being. Thank you all for your help.

I have done a thorough clean out of temporary files, cache etc. and it seems to have solved the problem. Hope it is OK when I log on tomorrow. Once again thanks for help.

Cestrian - do you use a clean up tool or the windows utility? My internet usage is very high due to the nature of my work (I usually have GOY and BBC i player running when I'm online too) and was recommended this tool a couple of years ago..........

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

It's freeware, and to give you an example, cleared over 350mb last week in about a minute!
Takes a couple of minutes for a full clean up AND register scan and fix. I regard this as the most essential tool (apart from anti viral) on my computer!

I can vouch for that piriform cleaner too folks.....it used to be called "CrapCleaner" - no kidding! And it is quite the best and quickest tool around. I never shut down at night without using it and then clearing the files out of the recycle bin.....voila - fresh start each morning!!

I can confirm that Alzheimer. CCleaner may not be the best, but it is certainly the safest, so if you are not an expert in understanding what it is you are deleting, then CCleaner is definately the safest way to proceed.

One point - I've unchecked cookies and auto complete history on my set up. Saves having to log in to forums after use and saves time loading photos on here too!
Deffo safest - I don't even save the changes when I run the registry tool now, as it's always been 100% reliable.
Amazing the speed that is recovered by using it on a regular basis.

Thank for that reassurance Jasonf...I am definitely too long in the tooth to learn new tricks and am delighted to say that having only become a "silver surfer" some 5 or so years ago and having been so paranoid then as to have jolly nearly worn out my first little laptop with so many safety measures...that when I treated myself to my new one - I left dear old Norton to do it all and CCleaner nightly and since then have not had one hiccup!! Hope I haven't just brought the wrath of whatsit down on myself for saying that....LOL

For those who use and pay for Norton ..

There are free anti virus and anti spyware software available for download on the Web

I use Avast and spybot search and destroy

The site where I get all my computer assistance from is Guardians Talkroom

The Computer discussion group on the chat room maintains a Wickipaedia page which lists all the best software

I would highly recommend it

Quite agree with you about the cost of Norton but I was given the first year sub when I started up and have just stuck with them and they do what it says on the box..LOL

However your recommended site looks great for those PC people who know what they are talking about....sadly I don't have a clue..so will just have to leave it to my "guru" who does!!!!

I'm hopeless on the technical side of computers too but Norton costs quite a bit each year to renew £50-80 pa ? depending on which version you use.

The programmes I use are free and so it may be worth paying an expert to remove Norton and load one of the free programs when it comes to renewal time

I'm with you on Avast Anchorman.
I've found it to be the least intrusive of all the antiviral programs out there.

Of the experts I know there seems to be a 50/50 split between those liking avast and those liking avg
