hi all, i spend a fortune buying lillies each year but a friend told me that you can seperate the bulbs in half to encourage growth for the next season,is this true andif so how do you go about it? thankyou.

When I repot my lilies in the spring, I find little bulbs - scales - that fall off the main bulb. I pot these up and leave them alone to grow on. I think you can take scales off the bulbs deliberately to increase your stock, but it's a long-term project, and wouldn't help the 'parent' bulb to produce more or bigger flowers.

Why do you buy lily bulbs every year instead of repotting the ones you have, or leaving them in the ground? Mine flower every year for me.

How do I say thanks?
