Echium, grown from seed, now have 24" leaves, thick stems, no flowers. Why ?

Spritzhenry is right,they are biennial,which means they flower in their second year,I have also grown some from seed this year,mine is in a massive pot and I will overwinter in the greenhouse as I live in the Midlands and they DO NOT LIKE cold and damp.I wish us both luck for next year
