Please could anyone tell me whether a Ribes shrub would survive in a 16" cube planter which is placed against a house wall?

It would for a while, but hard pruning after flowering each year might mean it stays happy for longer. Container would be better were it 2 feet deep and 12 inches wide as a minimum.
