yes I agree with Hywel. I have one and they can take a lot of abuse! I forgot about mine in the conservatory and it really did look dead. but a bit of water and tlc and it is looking better if not perfect.

I agree, too. As a bonus, they get spikes of pretty little pink or coral flowers, if they get enough light. Most kinds bloom in late winter, early spring, but a few bloom in the fall.

Thank you for your answers. OH and I poured over his many books on cactus and succulents this am. We wondered if it could be Gasteria. I will ensure he takes good care of it and if it flowers next Spring I will encourage him to show it.

Im glad you asked this SG! This is the very plant which I am planning to let my young visitors split up at my open days, and I didn’t know its name. :)

That is a great idea Ck. I'm pleased our members were able to come up with the answer so quickly. It seems to be a child friendly plant but it does have pretty sharp points at the end of the leaf.

True, but kids love a weapon though! Lol;)

Very true and it is a great way to introduce them to respecting plants.

Oooh! Ow! Flashbacks to my cohorts and the Century Plants of my childhood!!

Hopefully these do not grow as big as Century plants Tug.

Gasteria leaf tips aren't nearly as sharp as them, either--thank heavens!

Perfect starter plant for children then.

How do I say thanks?
