Can my magnolia which is growing in garden soil be taken up and repotted into a large tub. She is about 5 6yrs old and about 30" high.

its been in the ground quite a while. whilst it is possible to lift it, it may not transplant too well as the fine water absorbing roots will be damaged. it will need to be in a big pot and kept well watered especially through summer and autumn if you are to get buds next year.
if it has to be lifted due to building work etc then its got 2 chances so nothing to lose. lift it with as much soil around it as you can to limit root damage. take care with your back as plants and soil are surprisingly heavier than you think.

welcome to Goy too :o)
