Allotment water problem

ive got an allotment and in a part of it water gathers there really badly at the moment it is just flooded, is it best 2 dig a trench with stones in it for the water 2 dispurse? will any plants survive there?

Is the soil clay? I'm asking because water lying and not draining away is the usual sign that you have this kind of soil. You obviously can't grow veggies in the flooded part - except maybe rice! LOL A trench across the end might work. You may even have to lay pipes to channel the water away... I think you will also have to improve the drainage by digging in lots of horticultural grit and organic material, especially if it is clay soil. Good luck!
