hanging baskets thinking off Bacopa

Wales Wal

Hi,

Just starting to pick plants for my hanging baskets thinking off Bacopa , does it flower to the 1st frost or just run out of steam come August . Best variety would be useful as well or your favorite. Abunda Colossal Blue variety is looking as it will make the grade.

Any advice appreciated..........

I had this in a basket display last year. It bloomed until 1st frost. I had "Giant Snowflake" but any variety would do. Pairs up nicely with trailing begonias, just mound up the begonia tubers so they don't sit in water, yet the soil keep moist all the time. They both bloom continuously until frost and make a stunning display. Pick your favorite colors.

The only reservation I have about Bacopa is its requirement for moist but well drained soil, so for hanging baskets in full sun, it can be difficult to keep up with watering it. If it goes short of water, it stops flowering for a while.

Thanks Both ,

Giant snowflake sounds interesting I will have a google and yes I am growing with trailing begonias.

Watering tip is useful .... I do place a plant saucer in the bottom of the basket filled with swell gell and acts as a good water reservoir so that should help in case I forget to water for a day or two.

Keeping it watered was never a chore or anything "dificult." Every couple days or so, give it a drink, not a big deal.

One of the easiest and longest-flowering 'basket' plants . . . good choice Gg :)

Yes, looks great on the patio all summer into fall.

they can be overwintered in a frost free porch/ greenhouse. I used to take cuttings and did buy replacements for about 6yrs. then I changed my planting schemes.
