yes it can cut it down vertically between it and the main stem and you should take some root with it. pot it up in to similar soil it has been growing in. water thoroughly at this stage and then keep it barely watered to encourage it to send out new water seeking roots.

If it doesn't have roots yet, better to let it grow a little longer.
