My rosemary has been neglected and is much too large. It has split into two branches about 30 cm from the ground. The main branch (which I would like to remove) is about 28cm in circumference, and the other is about 21cm. Could I cut off the main branch and retain the other? If so, what time of year is best, and are there any precautions to take?

yes you can cut it out, now or in the spring. give the foliage a light trim to encourage new busy growth.

I think I would take some cuttings as well, then if the mother plant looks unsightly you'll have some new plants to replace it with.

Thank you both for your advice. I will take a "belt and braces" approach by following both suggestions!
