Looks like spinach to me - why would you think it was a weed?

It's now an ex spinach as you've pulled it up.

I think it's Swiss Chard. It's very close to spinach.

I think you're right Bathgate looking at the pix again... even better as it keeps growing longer in the UK.

I grew rainbow chard last year. The more I picked, the more it grew.

Yup that is what is so great about it...

Can I ask how everyone cooks swiss chard and Kale, we have lots growing on the allotment. So far I have dealt with it like cabbage when cooking, but I am looking for other ideas.

Depends on how you cook your cabbage. I would steam both swiss chard and kale, though the kale will take longer to cook than the chard. The into the pan with a little olive oil or butter and a grind or three of black pepper - the chard in particular will wilt down a lot so you need to start with more in the steamer than you possibly think you need. You can also add chopped up kale to soup and casseroles.

Chard is OK in stir fry too - put the stalks in first and add the torn up leaves near the end.

If the kale is getting on a bit it helps to remove the midrib as it takes longer to cook.

Any recipe you have for spinach, you can substitute with chard. I usually sautee in olive oil until aldente - a little salt & pepper and a splash of apple cider vinegar - I do same with beet tops.

It's also a wonderful addition to any kind of soup.

How do I say thanks?
