No!

Sorry to disagree, but yes you can. Probably not worth it but you could always taste one and see what you think.

what do you mean by a flowering blackcurrant? is it an ornamental version of a fruiting variety of black currant?
or do you mean flowering currant Ribes sanguineum?

They only wanted a yes or no answer, so we did!

OK, I'll change my answer from 'I wouldn't' to No.

Bit of clarification please - I notice that, in the States, people seem to call Ribes sanguinam flowering blackcurrant, whereas its actually a flowering currant - actual blackcurrant is Rubus nigrum. If you have Ribes sanguinam, it does produce berries which are edible, but they're insipid and fairly tasteless.

Once again our experts have outdone themselves. I admire all of our experts as they answer some ambiguous questions without any fuss and always come up trumps. Sometimes they might have a slight disagreement but all have dignity and decorum and resolve differences, immediately. Hats off to you all!!!!!!

Actually Joan, I'm still laughing - if you look at the question, despite its somewhat inexact information, there is a request there for 'yes or no, nothing else', which isn't, of course, what the asker has got. But then, if you're not specifically exact in the question, then a specifically exact answer such as yes or no is impossible... Still, I'm grateful for any amusement wherever I find it...

Well the answer to "can I eat the berries? yes or no" is clearly "yes". You can eat whatever you want - eat pigeon poo if that's what takes your fancy!
So, yes, you can eat the berries - but the qualifier is that they may not be up to much in the taste department.

I've tried and they weren't!

And you may end up with a serious tummy upset! So NO!

Well I didn't. One was enough as they were pretty tasteless and they really are not harmful. I just had a look on Google to see what others say - they all agree edible but tasteless.
Same applies to fuchsia and Mahonia berries which I also checked out first and tasted.

You can make jam from fuschia berries.

That's why I tasted one to see if it was worth it and I didn't think it was! (Not that I have enough berries...)
