what do you do when they have finished flowering and can you split them and when

On plant Aquilegia

When they have finished flowering you can either let them seed around or remove the old flower stems. You cannot divide Aquilegia as it has a thick tap root. Any attempt to lift it will undoubtedly kill the plants. I assume that the nurseries propogate named cultivars by root cuttings.
