a virginia creeper which had covered the front my house for a number of years has died, what might have caused this? Can I remove the trunk and branches and plant another in the same place? also an apple tree in my back garden has also died and two rambler roses over a treehouse suddenly died thie year. could their be any connection?

Might be - have you any dead tree stumps or woody stumps anywhere in the garden? And did you happen to notice any honey coloured toadstools last September anywhere? Not much causes this sudden plant death in this way, but honey fungus could.
