When do cerinthe (and zinnia) bloom?

Asked on 28 Jul, 2008

This question is on cerinthe, zinnia

Hello all!

I planted cerinthe and green envy zinnia at the end of march this year and I'm still waiting for them to bloom - is this normal because I started them a little late? I am in z 8b with temps getting up to 100 in the mid afternoon, although I do try to water every day. zinnia is in full sun at hottest part of the day, while cerinthe gets afternoon shade. Is the heat retarding the flowering process?

I can't say about the cerinthe, but I would think the zinnias should be blooming by now. I am in Ga, in zone 7 and mine have been blooming for 2 weeks, they did get a slow start but once the temps got high enough they shot up and bloomed quickly.
I would be suspicious that the Green Envy Zinnia is a late ver. Hope this helps!

My zinnias planted in March have been out for over a month but they are multicoloured ones. I put some green ones in very late, like late April, and they are not flowering yet. They are growing steadily. I think you will find that they will come. I'm in zone 6, and it's hot here too. Mine are in a sunny spot but are also shaded by surrounding planta.
