I have two peonis in large pots but they have outgrown them. when is the best time to plant them in the garden

The best time to move them is in late autumn but before the New Year - they start into growth very early and should be moved when dormant. I assume they are herbaceous (rather than tree) paeonies - do not plant them too deeply, the new growth buds should be above soil level. Give them a good feed in spring and they may even flower next year (mine did). Good luck
