We have bought a plant called Kentia which is a palm, I understand. The instructions that came with the plant state that it resents root disturbance and that it should not be repotted until it is thoroughly pot bound. How do you suppose I can determine this without disturbing it?

Don't worry, Bernard, you'll find the roots escaping out the bottom of the pot - once that happens, its time to repot, and the best way to do that is to cut the existing pot off, carefully, so you disturb the roots as little as possible.
