Colourful perennial shrubs that like shady borders
Colourful perennial shrubs that like shady borders
Asked on 20 Jul, 2008
I have a relatively small garden with ivy covered fences on two sides. I wish to plant some shrubs in the borders in front of the ivy to add some colour, but these borders see very little direct sunlight.
Can anyone please suggest some suitable perennial colourful shrubs that like shady borders?

If your soil is acid, there's Crinodendron hookerianum. Other colourful shrubs are: Hydrangea macrophylla and H.serrata, Euonymus fortunei (several to choose from) Skimmia, Mahonia japonica. Hope that's enough of a selection for you to look at and maybe find something to suit.
