i have some trailing lobellia from plugs i planted them out when they were 3 ins they are turning purple is this normal

This is a reaction to cold weather. Did you 'harden' them off before you planted them outside? Most of these are from greenhouses at this time of year and may not have ever been outside before. They will grow out of it. But next time be sure to let them get used to being outside first.
