My lawn has suddenly got areas of dead grass in brown patches so has the lawn across the way I think he may have sprayed weed killer could this be airborne and affect mine

Was it windy? If so, most certainly it could be weedkiller. What a pain for you! Could you rake out the patches and resow with grass seed? There's just about time left this year if the weather stays reasonably mild and damp. Good luck.
