Fish

A while back, I asked about some fish that I have in my pond which were black, I did not buy those, they just appeared, I asked why they were all black, if they came from the 2 large fish I have got, 1 is red the other is light pink. Someone said that when small they are usually dark brown, when they get bigger, they may change colour to red or pink, I just wanted to let this person know that, true to what he said, 2 of them have turned red one orange and brown. It is lovely to watch them changing every time. Now I can see 2 of them better. Hope you get what I am trying to say. Thanks for your advise.

Thank you Lori!
You are right about natural food. As I have not fed mine for months, because when I did, they did not eat any.
Therefore left them to their own devises. I am seeing some amazing colours.
This morning I went to look, I saw one with a beautiful
silver/gold colour, absolutely a delight to see.

Last winter I lost at least 60 fish, we had an late storm in March that dumped nearly 5 feet of snow on us...I couldn't get to my pond to open the ice..(It was 6" thick) and when the spring finally arrived and I could open the ice it was obvious all my carp had been suffocated...I overwinter my nymphaea in a large aquarium and every fall when I lift the plants I bring three small carp in to keep the tank clean over the winter... So this spring I started with my three... and all the pond work I had this spring started with that snow storm!

Hi Michaela, young carp are black. they take colour when they reach a certain length and breed only after they reach 3 inches in length... I think they are a lovely fish...hardy and resilient...and the more good natural food they get the better their colour...
