I am looking after a friend's garden while she is away for most of the summer and she has a precious almond tree. Something is munching it and I can't see what. It has ants on it but I am sure they don't eat leaves. By the time she comes back it may not have any leaves left. Any suggestions what to use on it - its not that large.

Ants usually mean aphids. Look on the underside of the leaves. The ants 'milk' the aphids for their 'honeydew'. You may have to spray for the aphids and then the ants will go away.
