my trachycarpus is 6ft tall, the leaves are turning brown as soon as they open . new leaves are appearing which suggests the plant isn't dead. please advice what to do

Not much you can do - it might be that the new leaves have been caught in the sudden temperature drop and frost we've experienced after a very balmy April. Remove any leaves which actually die back, as long as its still growing, it'll recover.
