I wait until they flower and then you know in the next couple of weeks they should be ready (although growing them in pots means you can check how big they are before emptying the whole pot!!)

Have a rumage around in the pot!!, if they feel big enough tip the pot out. If not cover back the soil and leave a bit longer. I personally wait until the foliage dies down. Then I cut it of and wait a week and tip the pot out. What pots are you growing Kimmy?

As i'm growing them in sacks and the sacks have a small flap/slit on the side, so i think i'll go for the rummage :-)
