Runner Beans

Asked on 18 Oct, 2007

Half way through the season our runner beans develop brown spots (like rust) on their leaves and die off. We've had this for two or three years now. Other people locally don't seem to have the same problem. What is causing it and what can be done?

Hi Polborder, there is a disease called bean rust which sounds likely. No experience of it I'm afraid but I've read that to ensure you get rid of it you should rotate away from beans for a couple of years, that might explain why you find it returns too.
