i have just got a rose bush i am not a rose grower but noticed there is 5 leaves on 1 branch & 7 on the other i think i remember someone telling me the one with 7 is a sucker am i wright ?

Not necessarily. Suckers will be produced from below ground level and are usually identified by their different colour, more prickles etc. The number of leaflets can be deceiving. The growth habit of the sucker will probably be different too. So keep an eye on it and then decide, or post us a picture for a 2nd opinion!
