My first reaction is: in a pot in a conservatory! This is a tender plant - it doesn't like any temps lower than around 5 - 7 degrees....some people do grow it outdoors in the summer months, and take it back indoors in the autumn. I dont think it's fussy about soil - try JI no. 2. I believe it can get to at least 3'...if not more.
