Fox damage?

Certain plants and shribs in my garden have suddenly wilted and some have died. There are 4 hydrangeas in a row the 3rd has completely died the others healthy. I have seen foxes in the garden and think it may be them marking their territory? I removed the dead plant and replaced with another but left it in its pot, just incase it was all the trees and bushes around killing the plant? However just over night this too has wilted? Can you help
