two large plant pots have been stolen from my front garden. How can I alarm or protect future pots

It amazes me the depths some scum will crawl too in order to take something that belongs to someone else !! Im guessing there isnt much you can do, if they want it they`ll have it, if you fix the pots to the ground they will rip out the plants, its happend to me, although i set up a false CCTV camera in full view of the front of the house coupled with PIR lighting, its all u can do i guess... Good Luck..

you can get pressure pads that set of an alarm if the pressure is taken of . you could always use a bit of fishing line and put one end on the pots and the other on something very noisy like old cans or something .

thank you Peedee65 and Noseypotter.

Where would I be able to purchase pressure pads

Peedee's right - if they can't move the pot, they take the plant out of it. You can make it more difficult by cementing the pots into the ground, and then planting between mesh laid on the top of the compost, but they may still try to take the plants, which means they get destroyed anyway.

im not sure but i know you can get them as some plants in pots ive seen are a £1000 each . i sore these at a place called urban jungle . they mite be worth asking .how about making it dificult bye being noisy .you can cut the bottems out of the pots and cement them in so the tap roots grow down into your soil.i would make it noisy and difficult . most theives want it easy and dont want to be caught.these thieves were know doubt opertunists and being so if you make it difficult will go somewear else.you could google garden security as garden centres have the very same problem.

unfortunately they were either side of the front door. on paving. They weighed about 150 lbs each. I guess someone saw them and came back overnight with a van and friend. One of the pots was only 1 metre from our bedroom wall and we still did not hear them. When I replace them I hope that something like alarm pads will at least wake me up

As its by your front door a security light that comes on when there is movement may be a bit of a deterrent?

you should of reported it to the police. ive had plants stolen out of my pond , a neighbour next door but one have his tub pinched , but the only thing is the police will give you an incident number.
but you should warn your neighbours whats happened, just in case the thieves decide to pinch something else.
Im a Area Neighbourhood watch co -ordinator so i know what im talking about

neighberhood watch could be your key as hijuju sais.you can get your own cctv asswell which will deswade them . you can get inverred these days thats wireless and works up to a 100 yards from the base unit in your computer .i would get some advice from the police as well as report it.dont mount your camera at arms hight . my friend baught a jag car and they just walked over with there hoods on and bent the cameras down .he hasnt had a problem since he put them on the roof . its a sad sign of the times and if someone wants something enough they will take it.ive always had a 4 legged alarm well 5 to be egsact but you get my point.the thing is most thieves are opertunists who want something for nothing they dont want to get caught.you just got to make it so they pass your house bye.good luck anyway bye for now.
