our lemon scented conifers have been in for 6years and have started to go rust in colour and seem to be dying

I just saw someting in Amateur gardening magazine about conifer aphids. It said that the branches started to turn brown. Conifers do go brown if they are too dry and then die quite quickly. Our conifers also got sun scorch in a very hot summer but they did recover from this. Hope they are OK!
