hi there, I wonder if you can help? My garden needs a hedge and I've no idea what plants would be best. i live in west of Scotland near the coast, and am told the soil is acid. The garden is east west with good sunshine, and the hedge will cover 20 metres. I'd like it to provide privacy, colour, interest for me and birds, bees etc. Preferably evergreen and requiring trimming once a year (or max 6 feet tall), it would include herbs such as bay and rosemary,etc. I'd be grateful for any suggestions - thank you in advance.

I asked a similar question here for plants which tolerate salty air etc. and that sea buckthorn is a very good coastal plant for hedging doing well in salt winds, poor soil etc with the added advantage of berries ( if you have male and female) that are edible and very high in Vit C

You could consider viburnum tinus which is evergreen and winter flowering and sometimes used for hedging, though more of an informal type hedge I think. It can grow in acid soil.
