I think it might well be Bird of Paradise, Ian. I think that as the flower develops the stem bends over and the flower becomes more horezontal, Drc?

According to Wikipedia:
Parrot's Beak, Parakeet Flower, Parrot's Flower, Parrot's Plantain, False Bird-Of-Paradise (Heliconia psittacorum).
The few I've seen in my area were sold as Parrot's Beak, admittedly confusing!
