Hi, I think this was answered on question 20650

Hello the plant is Euephorbia characias wulfenii, it is a biennial shrub, all the young growth it throws up through the year will flower next year, there not exactly flowers but bracts, bees and flys love them, in mid summer on hot sunny days the seed heads pop and scatter the seed, once the seed heads fade then cut them out at the base , carefull though of the milky sap it can be an irritant, euphorbias self seed quite easily so try and save some or look for others in your garden and transplant to a favoured position. hope this helps,

Julien

Whatever it is, it's lovely!

Agree with Julien - seeds itself as well.

well even I knew this is a Euephorbia of some kind. Steady on there dont get rid of it, it looks great.
personally I would keep it, then trim when done

Stevie it is a biennial so cutting it back is a waste of time. Once it has flowered that is it! Frankly it is a thug and I would not give it garden room as it seeds widely and wildly all over the place!

That might be your experience, MG, but that's not mine - it has bienniel stems, but the plant carries on - I've had one downstairs in the gardens for the last 4 years - this'll be its fifth. I just cut down the flowered stems each year and leave the rest.

I've just noticed Guest is saying it is growing out of the side of the house. In this case I would suggest removing NOW before it does any damage!

How do I say thanks?
