square foot gardening

Lincolnshire, United Kingdom Gb

i really like the idea of square foot gardening, and would like to give it a try to maximise the use of my available space.is it possible to use the same method in the garden rather than in raised beds, and if so is anyone able to offer me any advice or guidance on how to get set up?

If you are replacing your natural garden soil with the recommended mix, put 1-2 cm of the mix into the bottom of the bed, and scratch it in with your cultivator. This will make a transition layer that will keep the drainage from stopping at the soil change. If your beds are going to be more than 1 m wide, put in strategically placed stepping stones to keep from walking on the soil and compacting it. Try to make the beds as level as possible, to facilitate watering--or, in your climate, reduce erosion!
