Can anyone recommend their favourite climbing rose? I'm headed off to the garden centre in a bit. I'm a rosey virgin so any and all tips and ideas appreciated! :-) I'm putting up a fairly wide arch. Can I grow 2 varieties on either side to mingle in the middle or will 1 be enough to cover the entire thing?

A very old fashioned one called Albertine, very fragrant pale pink flowers, beautiful. Think this is a rambler so only one will do.

My favourite is william lobb. it has beautifull light purple flowers that smell just like turkish delight, we had one in our last house and I would recomend it to anyone. The amount of flowers was amazing. we counted 40 in its first year and about 80 in its second. there were so many in its third that we could not count them. I'm gonna get another one for this garden as the smell filled the whole garden. it was intoxicating.

Zepherine Drouhin has it all - she's thornless, so you won't catch your clothes on her, fragrant, and a wonderful pink. She also flowers twice.

Thank you for the suggestions. I went with 'dizzying heights' because it's a brilliant red and also 'pink perpetue' because it's a gorgeous shade of bright candy pink. Both are deeply scented and twice-flowering. I was sitting in the middle of the aisle at the nursery, with all these pots around me, ready to cry because I had to make a choice!!! I'm sorry I didn't see these responses before I went but hey ho, there's always the rest of the garden!! :-)

I got a purple and a yellow climbing rose from my local poundland which has a great selection plants and bulbs, and a few days after getting the roses home, they were sprouting.

A week after buying them I pkanted them outside after having them indoors to keep an eye on them.

Why not see if your local pundland has any in stock.
