Potatoes

Asked on 24 Jun, 2008

I've never grown them in pots before. Can someone tell me if I should add more compost as they grow upwards ?

Yes I think you do ( am actually trying this myself for the first time) I think it's to stop the plant getting too leggy but I may be wrong

It's also to encourage new roots and therefore more potatoes...

And it makes sure that the developing potatoes are always under cover otherwise if they`re too near the surface of the soil they turn green.

Regarding your potatoes – growing in pots – look at mine – what you do is when you plant the spud – just cover it about an inch above the tuba – then when the growth shows about an inch above the soil – cover with soil again – I leave only the top leave showing – do this all the time until the pot is full – you get loads of spuds and when empty – start again – chips every day !
